Electric Guitar Solos -- What You Need to Know Before Playing Them
![]() |
Most everyone who decides to learn the skill of electric guitar dreams of playing amazing electric guitar solos. If you're one of them, there is lots to learn before you can do this. You will first need to choose the best guitar for your needs and decide if you prefer strumming with your fingers or a guitar pick. Some guitars are solidbody, others are hollow or chambered. Try a few different types before deciding which one you like the best. You'll also need an amplifier to plug your guitar into, and you may want an effects box as well. Once you've got your equipment all set up, you need some education.
There are several ways to learn how to play guitar. You can get private instruction from a qualified teacher. This is a good way to learn because you've got someone right there to observe your technique and correct any mistakes as you make them. Guitar lessons can range in price from cheap to expensive depending on the teacher and where you are. You may even have a friend who knows how to play guitar that can teach you for a bargain or even for free. Another way to learn guitar is to teach yourself with the help of an instructional DVD, book or software program. Some people like learning on their own rather than with a teacher. How you decide to learn guitar is up to you.
One of the first things you'll learn about is guitar chords. There are lots of chords but most guitarists start off learning ten to fifteen basic chords. A chord is defined as three or more notes played at the same time. This means you will be strumming at least three strings of the guitar if not more when playing a chord. Chords fall into different key families. It is advised you start with one key family and master all the chords of it before moving on to the next one. As you learn and master chords you can begin adding new ones to your repetoire.
Another thing you'll need to learn is how to read music. Once you know how to read sheet music, you can try tablature or playing by ear. Playing by ear means listening to a piece of music and playing it without sheet music. Once you can play the basic chords and read music, you have everything you need to start playing the guitar solos you've always dreamed of! Whether you're playing on a stage or at home, playing guitar can be a rewarding and fulfilling pursuit for people of all ages!
